Flinders Island, Tasmania
A quick text is the best way to reach me - between 9am and 6pm please!
Let me know the occasion, your needs and requirements and your contact details. I'll get back to you and we can have a conversation about what you're after, who's coming, and whether it's a good fit. That conversation is part of the process.
Welcome to my table…
Hello, I’m Cate, and I cook and host food experiences for people who love real food made from what the island has to offer. Join me at my table, where I’ll chat with you about each ingredient, our community of growers, and share some island stories. This isn’t a restaurant — it’s genuine island hospitality in my home by the beach.
Simply delicious food experiences.
Community Pop-Ups
Keep an eye on my Facebook page and the Bowman’s Store blackboard. I do a pop-up lunch generally once a week, often with an Asian flavour (pre-orders recommended) and ‘Saturday Bakes’. First in first served. Run don’t walk!
End of Tour Celebrations
End your tour the right way. I've been hosting final-night dinners for touring groups for nearly a decade. Good food, island stories, and a table full of people who've just had the time of their lives. The memories shared are forever.
Island Events and Catering
I cater for organisations, groups, and community occasions across the island — functions, working dinners, celebrations of all sizes. It’s the same seasonal approach and care I bring to my own table. Get in touch and we can chat about what you need.
Small Group Dining
A dinner at my home on the West End, for 6 to 14 people around one table. Whether you're marking something special, celebrating the end of an extraordinary Flinders Island escape, or simply want an evening worth remembering — this is that dinner.
Come Cook With Me
I love teaching as much as I love cooking. Whether it's a hands-on workshop in my kitchen, a small group gathered around a particular technique or ingredient, or something bespoke built around what you want to learn. These sessions are intimate, practical, and genuinely useful. Get in touch and we'll work out what makes sense for you.
The island's produce, the sea, the kitchen garden, and whatever I've managed to grow or source — that's the menu. It’s simply the way good food should be…
What People Are Saying
“Cate treats us to an incredible food experience, shares her food philosophy along with her personal journey of what it takes to source local ingredients. While her expertise and creativity is always at the heart of her operation, she always tells us she cannot do it without the community of Flinders Islanders who provide the produce seasonally. Cate’s is always a trip highlight and the crescendo to a Roaring 40s kayaking trip on Flinders Island. Guests are constantly amazed, impressed and inspired by Cate and what she provides.
— Tory Stewart, Roaring 40's Kayaking
“Cate’s pop-ups let us eat our way around the world without ever leaving Flinders Island — Japanese okonomiyaki, Greek lamb, Indonesian beef satay, Italian ricotta gnocchi and some Vietnamese wings I won’t describe because island supplies are limited and I have no intention of creating more competition. Her Saturday bakes inspire similar devotion, with one particular nine-year-old monitoring the arrival of the rhubarb and custard danishes with the seriousness of an air traffic controller. Cate’s food is always what people talk about afterwards.”
— Rachel Summers
“One of the lovely aspects of working with Cate is her eagerness to utilise lots of our homegrown produce in the dishes she creates for us. It's lovely to see it being used in creative ways. My vegetarian diet is always catered for with food that is not only delicious, but built around protein and essential nutrients.”
— Naomi Creek
“Cate catered for our island wedding in February 2024. We had around 120 guests to feed - no small feat on an island this size! From the mezze platters after the ceremony, to the locally sourced feast at the reception, the menu was thoughtful, delicious, and showcased to our international guests Cate’s imagination, talent, and attention to detail. We would happily recommend Cate for all sorts of events on the Island.”
